Has anybody conntacted HP regarding upgrade of HDD during warranty? Does it void it?? Im especially interested in business series.

No RAM and hard drive upgrades are usually ok since they are often user replaceable with easy access. changing a CPU is different and requires opening the laptop up which would void your warranty.
-
No, it won't void warranty unless you physically brake the HDD connector or board parts replacing your HDD.

i e-mailed hp about ram upgrade..they said they need original hp config before you can be "supported"
-
what does that mean?

If you need them to service it, they want you to put the original HDD back in.
-
Interesting...is there any particular reason to that?
-
To save their techs the hassle of looking up all different kinds of drives/RAM. To be able to write the service manuals for specific parts.

What!! This is the most stupid thing Ive ever heard!! This must be a joke! Oh well, seems like no upgrade for 3 years...

It doesn't void the warranty to change stuff up, just make sure to change it back before sending it to service. A company can't be responsible for their customers messing around with their computers and then saying something isn't working, thus they make this rule to at least make sure that it's the hardware that they provided you with that isn't working, not some other junk you decided to put on your machine.

Well, yeah I agree. But this just rules out selling Your stock HDD and just getting a new one during warranty. For the 3 year warranty it just means NO upgrade with getting some money back for the HD. At least business series seems to have good quality components (fastest 5400RPM HDs in 8510p and 7200.2 Momentus in their 8510w). This just complicated my problem bit more coz I was hoping to upgrade HDD to 200GB Hitachi and selling the stock one to get some money back.
