For a while now I have been using my HP laptop in conjunction with my 42" 1080i LCD tv (to watch movies, etc). I have been using the VGA port for video and audio out jack for sound.

The picture quality has been excellent.

I just bought an HDMI cable, mostly for the fact that I can have 1 cable for video and sound rather than the 2 separate cables snaking around my room.

I have one problem with the HDMI cable though. The video quality is not as good as when I use the vga cable. I can figure no reason why this is. I've tried changing to every different resolution setting with the HDMI and it never comes in crystal clear.

The main example of this is text on the screen. With the vga cable all text comes out smooth and clean. When I use the HMDI it doesnt, it looks kind of grainy is the best way I can put it.

Anyone else have this problem, know what it could be?
    Thanks

Yes, as far as I know everything is fully updated. Windows update is fully updated, and I also checked the video drivers. I've had this laptop for months now, and i've kept it updated, I just got the hdmi cable though.

Everything was perfect when I was using the vga cable.

harpreet1988 - I see you have a similar model HP, do you use an hdmi cable to view your laptop on your tv? If so, is it good quality?

I have the same notebook but have not tried the HDMI output. I have a 56 inch Samsung DLP 1080P compatible via HDMI and will give it a try tomorrow and report back. Although, I don't have a VGA cable so I can't compare the two inputs.

Edit: Well maybe I will give it a try!! There is a NOTE on my Samsung "Using Your TV as a Computer (PC) Display" page which says "You cannot connect this TV to a PC via HDMI/DVI". Not sure why not but I may not be able to try it.

It further says I must connect to the TV using the RBG input jack on the TV to the PC.

No I haven't. I don't want to mess with them. my laptop works perfectly, I'd rather not mess with it. If anything I will just go back to the vga cable, it works perfectly.

I figured if this was a common problem I could find someone on this forum with a solution. Its always worked before ;)

Theres a special HDTV menu in the nvidia control panel, try tweaking these

if you dont have it then you dont have the right set of drivers

Mine is really nice and clear. Attachment photo is bad quality due to dark lighting

I use the laptopvideo2go drivers, they work flawlessly. Might as well give them a try, as you can always switch back to hp drivers.

OK, I hooked up my DV6775US to the Samsung TV through HDMI. The picture looked great and the Text was extremely clear and sharp. I couldn't imagine it any better. I was actually quite surprised and impressed. I didn't get the sound working (didn't try very hard either) but that was not your issue. The video driver I have installed is the latest from the HP software download page for the laptop. Ver 7.15.11.7432 Date 2/26/2008.

Hi to enable sound to via HDMI

Go to Sound > Playback Devices > Enable SPDIF/Digital out as default device

Now restart the program/player you were using
