I have a dv6500t computer. I recently bought a 23" lcd monitor (HP w2338h) to go with it. I was using the vga cable that came with it, which works perfectly fine. I then bought a link depot hdmi cable to use to connect my monitor. The cable works fine, but when I restart my computer (with the hdmi cable still plugged in) my computer brings up the blue screen that says my computer was shut down to prevent further damage. But when I take the hdmi cable out, this screen doesn't pop up and shut my computer off. Why does the hdmi cable do this?

And flash in the latest BIOS if you haven't already. But like emacs72 said, it's probably a driver bug.

I am with emacs72 on this. Blue screens indicating a shutdown much (most) of the time have to do with driver problems.
When you get things going, if you would please comment on your satisfaction with the HP w2338h monitor. My desktop monitor (older Viewsonic CRT Pro model, with heat issue) is dying and I have been considering replacing it with either the older model of the monitor you bought HP w2207h or the same monitor w2338h. My notebook has the HDMI output so I would also use it with the new monitor. -
there are no doubts that this monitor is awesome, and thats with the vga cable. I just would like to use an hdmi cable. It does work with the hdmi cable, its just when you restart the computer, it shuts back down. This monitor (23") is so bright and nice, with a great picture tho.
