I have a DV9730ca. Vista Home Premium. Has one HDMI port. All I can find anywhere online only states it has "HDMI (1)". I see other 9700 series specifications are more detailed and say "HDMI in and out". I am assuming mine is the same. So is that one HDMI bi-directional? Just plug and play or is there something to setup first?

And can I simply plug my cable receiver in with HDMI and record?

    Thank you :)

As far as i know its just HDMI out.

You just plug it in and Nvidia control panel will pop up and let you choose how you want the monitors to view

So you think its just HDMI "out" only on my model... or are you thinking the whole 9700 series should actually state "out" only?
I have not pysically seen a model in a store which is stating "In and Out", would there simply be two HDMI ports then?

Its all new to me this HDMI on laptops.

    Thanks again.

P.S. I find it frustrating at HP.com where you type your model number for info and drivers. In the past I could enter my old HP model and it listed all the specifications I think under Product Specifications. I can't find any of that on any of the new ones I am looking at for helpful info.

HDMI is out only. It's connected to the GPU, not a tuner.

Yes I know the GPU is not a tuner. What I mean is that my cable TV receiver is the tuner, then it sends the data via HDMI to the TV. I just hoped I could plug the HDMI cable in to the HDMI port on the laptop to record that data.
I was confused because several HP DV9700 series laptops state both In and Out. I can't find anything about my model other than "HDMI (1)" only.
Fine if mines Out only. I was just checking.

if it says that anywhere about the 9700's then it is a mistake because having an HDMI in and out is not possible when it is connected to a gfx card

Thats where I was going for years. For my old laptop I could type in my model, then on the next page it had choices for Setup, FAQs, How To Use and there was Product Info. You used to get a list of specs soomewhere in there. Now I can't do that for my new laptop. same info pages, but no specs.

Anyhow, I just found what I wanted here http://h20386.www2.hp.com/CanadaStore/Product.aspx?pdetail=P30451&
Theres also a PDF with similar info. It just says "HDMI".

Thanks for clearing up the "In and Out".

A was going online to stores to try see what specs other 9700's have and some say In and Out, thats why it was confusing.

Yeah, HDMI is only out on HP laptops. It might be possible in the future for them to make it in and out, but at the moment it is only for displaying your screen on another display.

I was pissed when I bought my dv9500t, because when I asked HP support before I bought it, they said it was in and out (I know, I should've done a little research before). Once I got it and tried it, it didn't work, so I called them and they said it was only out. Bunch of idiots in their support, if it isn't on the screen, they don't know the answer.
