Hey guys, I searched throughout the forums but couldn't find a similar topic and I think it must just be me? Do any of you connect your hp dv6t 6100 to a HDTV via HDMI cord? I have done so on 3 HDTVs so far and it happens on all o them. The TV shows only a partial amount of the screen and can't seem to fit everything on it. It also happens when I duplicate AND extend the screen. So, the problem is that, let's say the resolution on the T.V. is 1920x1080 but it only shows dimensions of 1880x1000 or something like that. Another example, when I maximize a firefox, I can't see the exit, minimize, maximize, and URL bar on the HDTV. When duplicated, it looks fine on my laptop screen but can't seem to fit everything on the HDTV.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried to change the resolution on the TV via laptop and it fails for all of them. (even the recommended resolution)

I had same issue on my desktop. Your graphics adapter scales the picture, even though it isn't needed. This can be set in the AMD/ATI control panel, look for a tab with your displays listed, then right-click on the HDTV to set it's properties and you'll see scaling options there.

I don't have access to suitable computer right now so I cannot give exact instructions.

Dumb question but just to be clear here: can you fix scaling through the ATi control panel when using a VGA connection as well?

Check the documentation for your TV to see if it treats the HDMI input differently based on what device is connected on the other end. My Samsung LCD has an option to tell it that the HDMI input is connected to a PC (somewhat confusingly located in the menu to "rename" the inputs). It corrects this issue.

Hey I have the same problem as you do! I just bought an HP monitor and i'm stuck connecting it via a VGA cable cause thats the only way i can get 1920x1080 to display correctly. And the freaking CCC included in HP drivers doesn't have the overscale adjustment option.

Oh and by the way, HP monitors disable custom scaling option when connected via HDMI at 1920x1080 so there is NO way to fix this issue via monitor settings. I'm really pissed at this.

Anyway, i'm trying to find a solution, if I accomplish something I'll let you know.

I had a DV9030 that I was never able to get to work hooked to the TV via the HDMI.

Hey!! I just managed to fix my issue!! I'm really excited :D

Ok I don't know exactly why it did start to work but i'll tell you what i did so you can try it.

The thing is (i think) that iti is intel control panel that manages overscan so you have to modify your resolution settings in order to force it to not overscan.

    I'll explain what i did:

First you have to know the refresh rate at which you monitor operates (mine does at 50, 59 and 60 Hz).

You have to do this process for each refresh rate (I dont know why but my monitor switches from one to the next every once in a while so maybe its not your case) for it to work on any refresh rate setting you use.

    1. Open Intel graphics media control panel. Select Advanced mode when asked.
    2. Go to Display ----} Custom Resolutions
    3. On display Select your external monitor
    4. width 1920, height 1080
    5. Refresh rate: one of the avobe
    6. Color depth: 32 bit
    7. Interlaced mode off
    8. UNDERSCAN TO ZERO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
    9. Timing standard CVT-RB
    10. Click add and tell it to overwrite the previous settings if it asks

and when you're done go to general settings tab, select 1920x1080 and your desired refresh rate, 32 bit color depth, mantain display scaling and voila! it should work now!

    Good luck!

Tell me if it worked for you too

The problem seems to be a combination of computer and TV, I have tried the laptop with two different 1080p TV's, and they behave differently. When connected to my friend's TV, you can't see the botton half of the taskbar or the top bar an any window, but on my TV, it aligns perfectly. I haven't tried the method in the above post since I haven't had my friend's TV to test with, but ot looks like it will work.

This happened to me when I first connected my laptop to my hdtv. A simple solution that worked for me was changing the picture settings of the tv via the tv from "16:9" to "Just Scan".

I had this issue on my samsung 55' tv, I dont think it has anything to do with ur laptop, I fixed it by going to the screen resolution settings on the tv and selecting "adjust to extern screen"
