I've tried this before, but on my DV9774ca I plug my HDMI cable in and watch on TV just fine, but have had to manually switch from laptop speakers to digital output manually. You have to remember to do this before starting Media Player, etc, or have to go back and start again.
Its the Realtek High Definition Audio.

Anyone ever figured out how to get it to automatically switch audio to the digital when HDMI is plugged in?

    :)

That IS the procedure - you have to manually set the Digital Output Device setting to Default for audio to redirect to the HDMI cable since there's no autodetect feature like some HDTV's have.

Yes I know how to do it manually because theres no auto detect, I was just checking that I hadn't missed something somewhere to get it to do it automatically.
I have two relatives with other brands of laptops and I don't know what audio chip, but they plug their HDMI in and it all works.

With nvidia 179.28 drivers (and realtek HD audio driver) I haven't had to do that anymore. Plug in the HDMI and I don't need to change any properties.

    Mmmmm.....
I have the latest drivers as of yesterday, for both the video and audio and same as before, its of no help.
And I can't see any setting to tell it to switch on its own.
I know its not the end of the world but would love to know how to get this to just automatically switch to digital audio on its own, when the HDMI cable is plugged in....if its supposed to work that is.
