Getting ready to buy my first laptop. Right now I'm about 90% sure it will be an HP. Don't really need anything bigger than a 17" laptop. But depending on the price and I have customized all these laptop. The HDX 18 cost about the same as the HDX 16 and I have recently added it to my list.
Price performance wise and over-all use if they are similarly configured does one of these models have an any advantage over the other??? The laptop will be mainly used at home, with very little travel. I figure the dv5t due to it's size will probably run warmer than the others.
Processor wise I was originally looking at the T9400 2.53. I do a lot of Photo processing with Lightroom and work with large raw files. But I was wondering If I could get by save a little bit of money and get the P8600 2.4, or the P8400 2.26 instead.
The GPU will be 9600GT card. Hard drive probably looking at a 320 5400rpm. Since it should be almost as fast as the 7200rpm and run cooler. I figured in a smaller laptop like the dv5t the 5400rpm will probably be a better choice. And if get the HDX 16 or 18 a 7200rpm drive should not run as hot and will probably get a 7200rpm drive for the bigger models.
Any thoughts or suggestions.

If you want a 9600m GT, I suggest also looking at the Sager Np2096. It has great value.

But from what I've read the HP screens are supposed to be nicer. -
There have been numerous threads comparing these models of HP, so perhaps look around and see opinions
But I'll repost my arguments anyways:
The dv5t's main advantage is portability(and price to an extent).
Everything else the dv5t can do, you can also make the HDX16(or 18) do, but they are also considerably larger than the dv5t so in terms of specs, the HDX16/18 and the dv5t are equal.
The screen resolution is different for each. The dv5t uses a 16:10 aspect ratio while the HDX16/18 use a 16:9 widescreen ratio. Depending on your use this may or may not be favorable. For example, 16:10 is still the main resolution for gaming and not all games support or have 16:9 ratio resolutions.
The HDX notebooks also have a subwoofer, so the audio is better on those two than on the dv5t.
Bottom line, in terms of pure performance, the HDX series trumps the dv5 series, but depending on your needs, it may reverse.
HDX 16/18 or dv5t
