    I've bought a brand new hp HDX 16 with a P8600 :) ,

reading on the HDX 16 lounge I've find the superb performance of the seagate
    7200.4 500gb, and I've bought them too! :D

But I've a question, my motherboard is a intel cantiga PM45??
I can mount a intel core 2 duo quad Q9xxx series??
or I can simply jump to a T9xxx series from the my P8600??
    :p

    Thanks

Please explain. The chipset will support a quad core according to Intel. As well, there is only a 1 watt difference in max TDP between the X9100 and QX9300 (44TDP compared to 45TDP). Further, HP has released the quad core for the HDX18 and I would bet the bios is the same for both in regards to supported processors.
At the very least I would say it hasn't been done yet. AFAIK no one has tried.

I don't have any personal experience, this is just what I've read. I have the 18t. I seem to remember something about the placement, because it is now offered in the Dv7t, but not on the HDX16t. I know some guys have wanted to and/or tried, but ended up with the X9100 as their best solution. You could try talking to XPS-MANIA - he wanted the quad, but was not able to get it work. If you find a way though, I'm sure you'll make a lot of 16 users happy! If you can get ahold of one with a 100% return policy you could always give it a shot.

I checked XPS's thread and all it states is that someone told him it wouldn't work, not that he actually tried and failed. That's why I spoke up, people just assume that whoever says something is more informed than themselves. If the X9100 does not cause any heat related issues, it stands to reason that a QX9300 would be fine as well. You get me a 9300 and I will gladly give everyone a definitive answer. Personally, I have no interest in quad core processors as I don't have any programs that would benefit from their use.
As for "placement", that doesn't make any sense to me as related to the processor or heatpipe location. I did confirm that the 16 and 18 have the same bios service pack so the 9300 is supported.
Mark my words, if XPS's laptop continues to run happily on the X9100, someone will install a QX9300 with success.

It’s not the mainboard but the BIOS of HDX 16 that does not support Quad Core series processors.

The person who told me that QX9300 did not work in HDX 16t actually tried and checked it physically. The HDX 16t turns on and shuts off immediately after 1-2 seconds when equipped with QX9300.

Please note that not all software support and utilize the quad core structure.

It's impossible to upgrade the BIOS on HDX 16??

If the hardware is ok, and if I'm understand good it's only the software in the bios the wrong one...

    Thanks
