I bought an HP HDX 16T-1200 CTO Premium- the most powerful one. It died after two years- first the screen started flickering, next the hard drive went. Paid $1500 for it two years ago and just sold it for $90 because of the stupid quality. Would have probably gotten another 1-1 1/2 years out of it. Now I just wanted to order the HP dv6tqe and I read that the dedicated graphics card doesn't work and they are (for some reason) purposefully not releasing drivers for it. That's just plain mean. Never buying another product from HP again. BIG disappointment. Anybody know how the dv6tqe issue is doing? Have they even responded to complaints?

Sorry to hear, that sucks. I learned two laptops ago to never again go with a 1 year warranty, regardless of the company.
Not sure what you're referring to about the drivers for the dv6tqe, but you might want to post in that forum too (don't know if you did). I can't imagine what the reason for that would be.
What all went wrong? In my previous experience, a screen replacement out-of-warranty is costly, but still only $400-500. A hard drive is around $100, so I'd reckon taking care of those things are still cheaper than buying a new laptop.
All major computer manufacturers are within 2-3% of each other for major failure rates, at least according to Consumer Reports, so it's tough to say that any one has a significant advantage over any other, statistically speaking. In my experience, 2 years is often the time when problems start to arise with a laptop, regardless of brand. -

I'd like to know the major failure rate of the venerable Apple.

"No one brand stood out as the most or least reliable. That's what we found when we asked more than 26,000 readers who bought a laptop computer between 2008 and 2011 about their experiences. The graph shows the percentage of brands that have ever been repaired or had a serious problem. Differences of less than 3 percentage points are not meaningful, and we've adjusted the data to eliminate differences linked solely to the age of the laptop computer."
Apple - 9%
Toshiba - 10%
Lenovo - 10%
HP - 11%
Sony - 12%
Dell - 12%
As noted above, differences of less than 3 percentage points are not meaningful...
Currency is as of this post... i.e., I just pulled it off their site right now. You need to have an active subscription to the magazine to be able to see it.
Thus, no brand is significantly more or less reliable than any other, and when talking about quality of a product affecting reliability, the computer maker brand is not significantly relevant. -
Hey, I have the following laptops still in complete working order! LOL
- Toshiba Satellite Pro P35-S609: Intel Pentium 4-M @ 3.2 GHz / 1GB RAM / 80GB HDD
- HP/Compaq Presario 2100: AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ / Radeon IGP 320M / 512MB RAM / 40GB HDD
- IBM Thinkpad 600E (2645-4AU): Intel Pentium 2 @ 363MHz / NeoMagic MagicGraph 256AV / 448MB RAM / 9GB HDD
- Compaq Armada 1598 DMT: Intel Pentium MMX @ 266MHz / 96MB RAM / 6GB HDD
- Toshiba Satellite Pro P35-S609: Intel Pentium 4-M @ 3.2 GHz / 1GB RAM / 80GB HDD
HDX 16t dies after two years, DISAPPOINTMENT.
