    Quick question:

I want to save money now and get this notebook with the regular DVD RW drive. Maybe later I want to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, is this even possible? If so, does it void my warranty?

(Also, how about a hard drive?)

    Thanks.

It is definitely possible to buy a Blu-Ray drive and a hard drive at a later time for your notebook. See pages 4-9 and 4-11 in the HDX16 service guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01612461.pdf for installation procedures. Be advised though that the bezel that comes with the Blu-Ray drive may not fit and thus you may need to use the DVD drive's bezel.

This will not void your warranty. However, should you need to send your notebook to HP for repair, simply re-install the original DVD drive and HDD before doing so.

    Awesome! Thanks.

This is great. Now I can get a faster clock speed and have money later for blu ray.

Note that HP's part prices are usually kinda high. They want 300 bucks for a 120 gig hdd that came in a 450 dollar laptop and i checked it the day i bought it. Whats even sadder is they pay like 300 dollars per 1000 processors and then the parts page wants 600 bucks for the crappiest processor u can buy.

That said i think the optical drives arent that badly price if their in stock.

Maybe you can get it the drive elsewhere for cheaper? The problem is will it fit and will the HP motherboard accept it?

I got 3 blueray ROM / DVD Writers drives on EBay for my DV9500's for less than $100 each, and they work great (they even do a better job of DVD burning than the original drives).
