    Good Day,

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my HDX 18t Notebook which I received this week. I am having problems with the Audio, it slugish and makes my PC very slow at times, pushing up the CPU Resources to 100% and freezing up the PC. I've googled the problem and MANY people have the same issue with the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Driver.

I've also tried to download the latest driver (sp43288) without any success, I still experience the same problem. I've read on this forum ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board...d&thread.id=609&view=by_date_ascending&page=4)
that some people had success with the sp42549.exe driver, at first it worked for me, but now I experience the same problem.

Anyone else on here with the same problem, and maybe the solution?

I'm having the exact same problem. It was fine at first, but now I don't have any sound at all. It started for me when I was playing C&C and tried plugging my headphones in. I could get system sounds through the headphones, but the rest of the sounds went through the main speakers, so I tried messing with the playback devices, and that is when the sound got all screwy. Now if I get any sound at all through the main speakers, it is garbled, and sometimes it runs my CPU up to 100%. If I go into the Task Manager, I can identify the processes that are the system hogs and end them, but all that does is allow me to use my computer with no sound. I'm not sure how to get the sound back. Probably have to wait for HP to release updated drivers for everything.

I blame IDT, and everyone who uses them. Just about everything else in the machine has accountability on the part of the individual device manufacturer, such as the video, or ethernet, etc. IDT has no support whatsoever, and unfortunately for most it is a pivotal point for the machine. Fortunately I am using an outboard soundcard (recording), but the audio has turned out to be the biggest downer with this device. Perhaps we should create a fund, and hire an actual driver author to get decent drivers for this thing. I'm in for 50. :)

Just to make sure, is this a problem with Win 7 only or Vista as well? I ask because I'm planning on getting a HDX18 with Vista in the next few weeks, and I need a notebook with solid audio on it.

Well, gaming, movies and music for one thing. But I also heavily use Cool Edit Pro as a WAV editor, mixer and recorder. I would hate to think the HDX18T's audio would crap out on me in an instant and leave me with a useless $2500 notebook.

I've looked at a few HP notebooks and all seem fine with Vista, so is this a problem with Win 7 only or is there more to it?

Same here...I cant even watch movies, Youtube, or listen to my iTunes...this is very frustrating. I went onto NVIDIA's website and downloaded the drivers for Win 7 64-bit and still the same

For the record, I'm using the IDT driver also on my Windows Vista laptop and have faced no problems whatsoever. For those using Windows 7, try switching to Vista and see if it works.

Also, the HP website does not have any drivers that can officially be used for Windows 7. If the drivers work, it is only a coincidence (the fact that Windows 7 is somewhat similar to Windows Vista may contribute to the coincidence, but please bear in mind that Windows 7 is different and separate from Windows Vista)

OK, I have resolved this with 3 different versions of the IDT driver.

THere is an offending process, called stacsv64.exe. This is a driver exe file that comes with the IDT driver packs, and is having real problems behaving itself with W7 64bit. Goto the services window, withing computer management, and double click on "audio service". Stop this service, and then disable it. The driver is not yet properly written for W7 (if you look at the properties of the IDT speakers/headphones in the playback devices window, you will see a single jack listed, or a digital jack listed, depending on what driver you are using - this explains why the driver for the jacks is going bonkers) This will be fixed soon, i'm sure, but in the mean time, just disable this (jack monitor), and then try playing something demanding like a blu-ray movie. Please chime in if this isn't working for you, like I say I tested it on 3 drivers within W7 64, including the XP64 driver within W7 64. All succeeded to perform flawlessly without that stacsv64.exe running.
