I own an HDX 18 1200 it has a 120W ac adapter. I just saw an HP 90w slim adapter that is half the thickness and half the weight. This would be great for traveling, but I was wondering if it would work, what would be the drawbacks, and could it damage the HDX?

I'm not too sure if it would or not. The HDX can draw 120w if you're using it and charging the battery from a 0% state. I've never had a 90w adapter to test with, but worst case it won't charge the battery while the computer's in use, or it won't even power the computer, but you're not at risk of blowing up your computer at least :p

If you're buying local, ask if you can test it before you buy it.

When I sent my unit in for covered repairs HP returned it with a smaller lighter replacement. At first I thought great (even though it didn't have the activation LED).

However, after 10 months use it has issues I guess with a broken connection. I now have to shake the cord to get it to work. A most inconvenient task. I guess that means I'll have to invest in a new one soon.
