    Hello all,

I recently purchased an HP HDX 18T Laptop with the QX9300 CPU, 4 gigs of RAM 1TB HDD's and the 1 GB 9600m GT video card. I have noticed that when maximizing and minimizing windows they tend to be a bit slow at times. Also, scrolling through websites can be very slow as well. Very laggy. I am running Vista x64 Ultimate, and I have the LaptopVideo2Go drivers, version 179.67. I have gone through hours upon hours of different video drivers, both stock and modded to see if that is where the problem lies. Many of the video drivers provide weird articats, and cause blue screens to occur. I have found very few stable, and relatilively functioning drivers. Gaming doesnt seem to be too bad, aside from the card not performing as well as I would like, especially in Fall out 3. I have the resolution set at 1920x1080, AA off, and the rest of the settings at high. I was hoping for a bit better, but this isnt a 130m card. Anyways, any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Did you mean to say "artifacts"? I have never heard of an "articat". Is it some sort of strange feline breed? :p ;) :p

Do you have a Dreamscape enabled? This would really slow the computer down.

Have you tried updating all of your drivers from HP's website? ( http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=hp+HDX+18T&submit=Go+%BB)

What all is running in the background?

If this is something that just came up, you might want to run a virus scan. Your computer could be infected.

    Hope this helps!

Oh, by the way, if you want better performance in games, turn the resolution down. High resolutions put more strain on the GPU.

Well I am not too worried about the gaming performance, its more of the issue within windows. I have all of the updated drivers and I do not run Dreamscape. The "artifacts" are are from the actual driver, it causes all sorts of distortion and "artifact" on the screen. It essentially will lock up, and cause a blue screen. Hence why I am at the drivers im on. As I am typing this, its a little laggy, and scrolling the page is slow. I really do not know. I reloaded Vista, loaded all of the proper drivers, and I can only forsee the video driver being the culprit, but I do not know why. I wonder if it is possible for the video card to be iffy.

I know that NVidia has had some problems in the past with defective GPUs. I don't know if the 9600m GT is one of them, but it may be. I would give HP tech support a call, or talk to them online. They may be able to give you some suggestions or a replacement.

may not necessarily be your video driver. when something is really slowing down the system, video is one of the first things to demonstrate it. my first guess would be that smartmedia hoopdeedo hp dispenses.

(remember, everything on that download page, has to 1st get released from the actual vendor - (hp doesn't make parts, just puts parts together in shiny case) then they test them specific for your particular series, then they repackage in sp form.) you don't need to be a genius to figure it's not there top priority to make sure the drivers are absolutely the latest and greatest, only that they work at the time, and that a host of people aren't calling up complaining about a bad driver. Software, is even worse. Mediasmart is an HP branding onto a special combination of hardware and cyberlink software. That is going to be even harder to maintain and keep current. These OEMs feel like they need to maintain that "special" & "unique" character. Whatever, it's just a headache for you and I.

try taskmanager (ctr alt del) during the lag- first click on the CPU button, to make all entries in order of CPU use. look for anything greater than 2 and not system idle process or taskmgr. anything there? then click on mem usage button, and organize the chart by memory. anything there over 30,000 or so?

might be a process slowing you up.

Have you downloaded the most recent drivers from NVIDIA for your card?
