    Hi

Trying to sort problem for father-in-law.
Crackling noise started coming from PSU when under load so have replaced the PSU with an HP original and still get the same noise.
    Is this a motherboard problem?

Also, on the odd occasion, if the laptop is moved, the blue media lights and the HDD/charging lights don't come on for several minutes after the laptop has booted.

    Any suggestions gratfully accepted.

The sound might just be normal sound coming from the power transistors when they switch on and off. If you need to stick your ear to the power brick, then it's most likely normal. I know most switchmode PSUs do this.
