I have one of the first HDX's, running Vista Ultimate, 64-bit edition, installed at the factory. Great machine, but one small problem...

Windows Update still isn't showing up w/Vista SP1 as a download.

It downloads and installs all other updates just fine, but it keeps telling me the HDX is up to date.

I have 2 other HP laptops, running Vista Premium 32-bit, and both downloaded and installed SP1 more than a month ago. But wait, before you say, "Those were the 32-bit versions", I also have a desktop, self-built, running Vista Ultimate, 64-bit edition, and it downloaded and installed SP1 at least 2 months ago.

A couple of times I've been tempted to download the big, full, SP1 file and install it that way, but the dire warnings on the MS site about waiting for Windows Update to decide when to download a smaller, more appropriate version for my machine keep scaring me off.

Has anyone else w/an HDX had this problem? Or does anyone have any ideas why, after all this time, WU still hasn't shown me SP1 as a download I need? (Again, all other WU updates are up to date--I just manually checked before posting this.)

    Appreciate any help.

One of your drivers isnt compatible with SP1. There is a list of problematic drivers, search it. Its usually the audio drivers so try update the drivers.

Personally i went ahead with the standalone x64 SP1 installer and it worked fine for me, even with problematic drivers.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I updated the audio driver first, then checked Windows Update, but no joy. Next I updated the Marvell Yukon Ethernet driver, and voila! There was SP1 on WU.

So for me, it was the Marvell driver. And the SP1 d/l ended up being 120MB.

    Thanks again.
