Is it possible to hook an HDX to a home theater system? I mean, could it be hooked up to a TV and a home theater system and get digital sound? From what I can see, there is only one HDMI port and no optical audio port, so i don't see how you could do it. Also, do you know if it woule be possible to get DTS HD or TrueHD sound?

    Thanks,

    Phil

HDMI carries both video and digital audio.

If your home theater receiver has HDMI in, you hook it up to there first. The receiver's HDMI out goes to the TV's HDMI in.

If your receiver doesn't have HDMI input, then you'll need to use a device that converts the HDMI to optical/coaxial audio out + HDMI/DVI/Component Video out.

**Or go straight to the TV with HDMI and if the TV has optical out or coaxial out - connect that to the receiver. **

You can get DTS sound so long as the software has the decoder (DTS codec) built in. Programs like WinDVD have it.

oh, ok. I thought the HDMI had to go from the notebook to both the reciever and TV. Awesome! Thanks!

For those receivers that have HDMI input, yes. They act as an HDMI switch hub.

One thing I might have to correct is that the HDX's HDMI will probably pass the DTS soundtrack without the need of software decoding since the receiver is what does the DTS decoding.

no, the HDMI on the laptop is output only, not input.
