Anyone upgrade to the full 8GB yet? One reference I check says the HDX can accept DDR3 can anyone confirm this?

The HDX uses DDR2. Upgrading to 8 gigs of RAM at this point for most people is a complete waste of money.

That should shave several hundred off the bill. Thanks!
Agreed. However, there is a small segment of applications like editing HD that would use every bit of it. It's the main purpose for my HDX
Note: On second thought, do the chips have to be identical? I don't want to have crash, blue screen, etc. issues.

What HDX are you referring to? The Dragon?

If so, then yes you can update to 8Gigs. It's been done by a number of folks. And yes, the stick should be identical as far as from the same manufacturer.

There are posters in the official Dragon thread that would be happy to lend advice:

If you know you need it, then go for a kit. It will work in your laptop. If you're lucky you will find a deal for a 2x4GB DDR2-800 kit for under $300 USD.

Yes, 2GB sticks are cheap. 4GB sticks for laptops, multiply that price by about 3.5 and you will get an idea. Kits can cost more. If you really need it, and you feel you can afford the hit, then go for it. Check out Newegg and zipzoomfly as they have some good prices. I hope this helps. Good luck.
