I was just wondering if my creaky noisy left side hinge on my 6 month old HDX-18 1374ca is normal? I don't know when it started but its been this way for ages. Its the left side where the heat is! Since this is a desktop replacement and I hardly take it off the coffee table I tend to leave the lid open now so as not to agrivate it.
It sounds like a creaking rusty old hinge on a door, if I close or adjust or open the lid it always groans and creaks and has a sticky grabby sensation as it groans and creaks.
Is anyone else having the same issue?
I am not too pleased if the hinge breaks, but if it creaks for the next 5 years I'll be ok with it. I have it all set up just the way I like with Windows 7 (came with Vista), absolutely no issues, so I'd hate to send it in and come back with other issues!
I assume its just the plastic/rubber/aluminum components in the hinge affected by the heat from the fan area.

I have a 2+ year old DV9774ca I just replaced the left hinge of course! Not difficult, cheap hinge off ebay, so far so good.
This hinge on the HDX is different to the DV9774.
    THX. :D

Mine used to not do this until the notebook took a tumble, now it does. I've been looking at replacing the hinge assembly on it because it's annoying to say the least. I believe the entire hinge assembly is something like $120.00 from HP.

Mine was one of the first released back when they had just started selling the HDX18T. It's a workhorse and a great notebook.

Nope no creaking at all from mine and I open/close it everyday. I wouldn't leave mine open (too much dust) unless I put a cloth over it.

My right hinge did this from day one I believe (I actually don't remember but It didn't bother me enough to return it).

I've also thought about trying to get some WD40 in there to see if it fixes it, but I don't feel like taking it half apart again just to fix it.

Ha ha, this threads come back up. I started this last year. I should add that after many months of use the hinge does not make any odd noises any more. Took some breaking in. Still like new though, but no noise. And I've been closing it at night these days. I had said in my original post I leave it open....and yes the dust was not attractive back then!

BTW, I wouldn't put any lubricant on the hinges or they might loose their hold and the lid will flop up and down??
