Hi, I am new around here so excuse my ignorance if this question has been asked, but I did search a lot and found no information on how 400GB 5400rpm drives would compare to say a 320GB 7200rpm drive.
i just ordered a HDX16 recently and mistakenly opted for a 400GB instead of the 320GB with 7200rpm. I know the computer wont have any problem running any of the usual programs that I need, but I also need to run Avid Media Composer and don't know how that will perform with a 5400rpm drive. ive read countless posts on here and other places that 7200rpm is the minimum for video editing, but the people who seem to say that also seem very biased and don't give a clear explanation on how much or why the 7200rpm is so much better
i know how the data density on higher capacity drives allow better data flow when the drive is not full and stuff, but wasn't sure if losing the cache and write speed was worth the 80gb difference
neway HP would not let me change the HDD during the production process so im stuck with the 400GB for now. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

its funny cuz the CSR from HP told me that I would not be able to cancel my order and re-order with the 30% off coupon because it was now expired
i went ahead and tried applying the coupon and it's still good... -
I think 400GB should be fine really. the bottleneck in a vid editing is usually the processor. if you have enougth ram (more the better) I wouldn't worry about it.

thanx for the assurance yuio
i didnt get the best CPU i could get for the HDX16 (i got the P8400)
to me, the CPU's price jump for the miniscule boost in performance was not worth it beyond the P8400
i got the free 3GB upgrade, but will order 4GB from newegg to replace it
i just didnt want my HDD to be the bottleneck in the system
HDX16 with 400GB 5400rpm for Video Editing?
