    Hi all,

I recently purloined a perfectly good HPX18 minus the hard drives... all works well (I booted up in a Linux DVD shell to check the rig out),

Anywho - both drive bays are empty. I see a connector coming off the controller but that is it. My 3 questions:

which HD bay is the primary??

Do I need one of those caddy things if I am only using one HD??

Can I use a 7200 RPM drive ??... I've heard that those run semi-hot in this machine (I could be wrong but that's why I'm asking.)

    Thanks much

The primary bay should be labeled with a small "1" imprinted on the plastic inside. You need a caddy. You can find them on ebay. They run about $30-$35 shipped. You can use a 7200RPm HDD, no problem.

You have several choices in drives. You can get the hybrid Momentus XT (part SSD, part HDD), a regular 7200RPm HDD, or an SDD.

Anyway, here's a link to the service manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01705400.pdf
