Just ordered an HDX18t with a 250gib 7200rpm HD and was wondering what manufacturer HD came with this model.
I realize I should have check this out prior but I hope it's not Toshiba.
Thx

I don't know exactly which brand of hard drives that HP uses for the HDX18, but I think it is usually Toshiba or Fujitsu....at least that's what it was for the dv6500 series.
My dv6500t came with a Toshiba and it worked fine...I eventually replaced it with a Seagate though merely because I needed more internal disk space. -
When I get the laptop in a week or so I'll post the HD manufacturer.
-
Dv7's were shipped with Western Digital hard drives. I am assuming they would do the same with the HDX line.

they're mixed brands. my 1st dv7t unit had a toshiba drive in it and my 2nd dv7t has a fujitsu in it.
-
My HDX18t has dual 7200rpm Western Digital Scorpios.
-
Device manager says Hitachi for the 250GB 7200rpm drive in mine.
-
Well well...then it is all but luck...
-
Very interesting. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for a WD

alternatively --
amazon has 320gb WD laptop drives for $80 and 500gb WD drives for $99 - i mention this incase anyone wants to upgrade. my dv7 came with a 320gb drive and i added another 320gb drive i got via amazon.
fwiw. -
anyone know if the HDX18 can accommodate an off the shelf sata drive?

yes but you need to buy a disk caddy, available at newmode.us .
i bought another hard drive and disk caddy for my dv7t. the 17" and higher notebooks can accommodate 2 drives. not sure about the 16" tho. -
ok thx. btw those caddies are not cheap. not sure if HP sells their HD's with or w/o caddies or if you can even buy a additional HD after the fact from HP.

the caddy from newmode.us is about $35 after taxes and shipping. i can assume that from hp, it'd be a lot more!
the newmode.us one even comes with screws - screws to mount the hard drive to the caddy and 1 or 2 screws ( i forget ) to mount the caddy to the chassis of the laptop . it was a nice complete package.
my 320gb drive + caddy came out to about $115 in total. well worth it to me to double my storage to 640gb now. -
Anyone know what the new SSD option is? At 160GB, I assume it's an Intel, but can anyone confirm?
-
1. Is the SSD Intel x-25? Is it worth the extra $?
2. Any suggestions for whether to got with q 9000 or q91000 or qx9300 from a price-value basis? As in are any of these choices worth the extra dollars?
3. Lastly has the debate between HSX18t and HDX16t been resolved decisively for ive seen so many posts on eachs superiority? doesnt the Quad core options + DDR 3 options sort of make up for its relative lack of portability as compared to the 16"?
thanks a lot
