    Hi all,

    I have Pavilion DV6255eu with AMD Turion 64x2 TL-50 1.6MHz processor.
The VGA card was damaged 2 times & I had to change the motherboard 2 times because the nVidia Geforce 7200 VGA card is build-in.

I think the problem is HEAT issue.
In idle the temperature is around 70 C and with gaming or multimedia the temperature reaches 92 C, with Prime95 the temperature reaches 94 C
The voltage of the CPU for:
    x8 1600Mhz is 1.075V
    x4 800Mhz is 0.800V
I have tried the power saving plan which limits the maximum processor state to 50% that means the processor will function only at 800MHz & 0.800V, the maximum temperature reaches 73 C.

The fan is always on; most of the time on hi speeds
I had cleaned the Heat Sink when I changed the motherboard & applied thermal peaste.
The BIOS is up to date (F.3D)

I did not try undervolting (I have no experience in it) & I am not sure if it will work because with power saving plan under only 0.800V still the temperature is hi (73 C).

I have contacted HP service centre, they told me the normal temperature is 40-50C (I don’t believe it) & it maybe a hardware problem & I have to bring my computer (my computer is out of warranty)

I know that the Max temperature for my processor is 95 C

Is the temperature my computer is running is normal?
Can anybody advise my what to do?
Does undervolting may solve my problem, if yes how can I do it for AMD Turion 64x2 TL-50 1.6MHz processor?

I hope to fine a solution before the 3 motherboard gets damaged!!!!

    With regards to all,

I have had similar issues as you with a 1.9GHz X2 and the exact same graphics card. Like you, I cleaned out the laptop, flashed the BIOS, undervolted, applied thermal paste, and practised devil worship in the hopes that it would cool down.

The computer still failed 4 times, with nearly every component replaced by the repair depot; I suspect that you simple have a fubar system that doesn't work properly. It sounds like you've done everything possible anyway.

These NVIDIA chips are highly prone to thermal failure, both the NVIDIA chipset your notebook uses and the dedicated NVIDIA GPU. The CPU has nothing to do with it. Intel notebooks with NVIDIA GPUs are having the same problem.

Your notebook is probably on this list. If not, it should be:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277

Next time it fails see if HP will credit you with a new notebook. One of the new dv5z's with ATI graphics would be a decent replacement.

I'm wondering if he can successfully argue that his model belongs on that list. It'll be an uphill fight.

I'm trying to convince HP that since they've missed two delivery estimates on my dv2000z with fried NVIDIA chip that they should just credit me towards a new notebook and save us both a lot of grief. So far, all they've done is convince me that idiocy is a global phenomenon.

    Thanks,

my computer is not in the list,
I already contacted HP last time & they asked for 400 euros to change the motherboard, so I had to buy one form ebay by 90 euros.

The list is incomplete. Every single notebook with NVIDIA chips from the 6100 series on up through anything made before the past couple of months has the same defect. Terrible, terrible mess. The BIOS "fix" of running the fan 24x7 works pretty well though.

I have seen a post in the internet, he says that the temperature was fine with Windows XP & with he installed Windows Vista the computer gets overheating,

So, I installed ubuntu AMD 64 not XP & this what I got:

Idle temperature between 49-55 C the CPU speed is 800MHz, with quit fan speed also,

Active temperature it may reach up to 77 C, but it never reached 80, unfortunately I did not fined a stress program like Prime55, the CPU speed was between 800-1600MHz

when I boot in Vista immediately the temperature jumps to 80 & above.

I think he was right not only a hardware problem but also Windows vista problem.
