Some days ago I updated the BIOS of my DV9000t (Model 9085ea) which I bought in Europe. I took the laptop to Brazil and updated the BIOS but it failed. The only thing I get is a blank screen and 3 beeps.

HP Support doesn't want to help me here, as this model is not on the market here. HP in Europe doesn't want to help because they say it has to be fixed there.

To make it more short, I've been reading and trying on a BIOS recovery floppy (the fn+b method) I found for the DV6000 series (with BIOS for DV9000 of course) but I don't have a floppy drive. I tried with bootable CD and bootable memory stick, but nothing worked. Anybody got an idea or experience with this model and know how to fix this? Does the procedure work on an DV9000 model at all, or does it work only with floppy?

    Thanks in advance!

well thats a first! maybe u actually need a floppy drive, i dunno but it shudnt as long as the program is bootable via the memory stick. HP use winflash so maybe u cud use a similar type flash program after booting? and btw u get a blank screen when? whats the last screen it shows u or doesnt it show u anything?

No screen at all when booting... (So also no windows, nothing at all) Also don't know if it's possible from cd, I couldn't get it to work, bootable SD card over a USB card reader also didn't work.. :(

so no screen whatsoever? that kinda means the bios chip or whatever it is that they use has been programmed with a corrupt bios or something. so nothing u can do will sort that out. only thing is if this chip is removable, then you could remove it and order a replacement but i dont think laptop ones are.

your local HP should be helping you regardless of where you bought it, theyre supposed to be representing the company not their interests! i suggest you talk to someone higher up the corporate ladder there who can help you out. if no luck there then talk to europe again, tell them that the local HP wont help u and u will pay for the shipping costs and anything else required or talk to someone up the ladder there.

dont really know about any other way to fix this, you could try a usb floppy, could work....

I know that floppy works for the DV6000, so that's why I try to find somebody who can tell me if it works for the DV9000 models, I don't have USB floppy now, but when it works it's worth buying.

Yeah, I can ship my machine back to Europe, but I have worldwide warranty and HP in Europe just says they cannot give the pickup & return service that comes with it, I have to ship (and pay) myself. HP Brazil is supposed to take over the warranty here, but they don't want to do this, as this model isn't on the market here and they can't fix it. Besides of the costs for shipping, it's a brand new machine, if I send it by post here it will or be stolen or heavily damaged, so it's not an option for me. HP promised that the customer service in Europe will contact me regarding this issue, but I can't wait forever. Just want the warranty I paid for, the pickup & return service, so I don't have to worry about shipment.

In case I can solve the problem with just a floppy drive I'll buy it and fix it myself in 10 minutes! And that's what I'm trying to find out here :D

Well there must be someone you can complain to, I mean what is the point of a worldwide warranty if they dont offer it worldwide! wonder if you can sue HP Brazil for not honouring their part of the warranty deal, if it is their obligation to help you then they must or be in breach of agreement (either between HP and you or HP Brazil and HP in general)

Oh well maybe someone here knows if that bios trick will work for ya!

Exactly, this way warranty is useless... You can try to sue a company here in Brazil if you want to wait 5 to 10 years, also not a real option :)

I'll just wait if somebody has more info on the BIOS trick, thanks anyway!

And as extra here's the procedure for the DV6000 models...

So for those who have the same issue, here is the procedure, it should
    work with most Pheonix bios

1/ don't call HP if you don't want to loose your time and stay with no
    laptop for 4-6 weeks
2/ don't use the last firmware on HP website (F.06), he is corrupted
    and will bsod your laptop
3/ download a previous version (F.04 or F.02) bios, it is a windows
.exe file, extract it 1 time or 2 times till you reach the bios file
    *.wph
4/ download the crisis recovery diskette stuff
(http://rapidshare.de/files/30321496/268076.exe or google it to find
    another link)
5/ launch the crisis recovery tool, it will generate a floppy with few
files on it, delete BIOS.WPH which is on it and replace with your file
    (rename it bios.wph)
6/ remove the battery from the dead laptop
7/ remove the power cord from the dead laptop
    8/ press fn+b or win+b (was win+b for me)
9/ while keeping the key pressed, plug the power cord and power on
10/ when it starts to beep and read the floppy, release the key
11/ floppy will be read for about 20 sec, then nothing, do not unplug
at this time, bios is rebuilding
    12/ go have a cigarette
13/ if laptop did not stop or reboot alone, unplug the cable and reboot
    it
14/ in my case, the laptop stopped alone when it was finished (about 40
    sec)
15/ laptop is resurected, takes 5 min instead of the 4-6 weeks if you
    call HP

    Cheers

    PW

Sad to say HP doesnt really warranty anything worldwide. They only warranty it in the country the unit was purchased. I had that same problem when I owned a ZD8000 and I was stationed in Korea. They wouldnt do anything unless I shipped it to my wife then they would ship it from her to them and back to her once fixed. Leaving me with the bill to and from Korea. It truly is pathetic. But at the same time I came out on top because I got back before the warranty expired and they couldnt fix it. So they replaced it after I wrote the board of directors. Now I have a Unit 10x better than the first lol.

heh but he did say it was an international warranty? maybe he was mistaken or its a policy specific to the country he bought the thing from? i know when i went lookin for a laptop i saw some had international warranties though im not sure if any of them were HPs

This is good. The question is: there is no floppy drive on dv2000t. Or by floppy, you mean USB floppy?

yeah well u can only use a usb floppy and its ridiculous how some of HP's utilities can only be used by a floppy drive. for example your laptop's SATA drivers can be downloaded for use with XP when u wish to install from a CD other than the recovery CDs but to extract them you must insert a floppy! wont work with anything BUT a floppy, tried USB drive, tried SD card no joy only a floppy! thats just dumb...

It is, but still don't know if it will work on the DV9000! I'll give it a try by buying a USB floppy drive and will let you know the results!

usb floppy drives are drive cheap. even probably where youre at too. i dont know why this was even a question to be honest. i would have went out and bought one regardless, tried it my self it could salvage my notebook.

You dont need a floppy drive to install the sata driver btw. you can do it after windows is installed, having disabled sata first in the bios, then enabling.

Or even return it when it does work ;)

Well, the question was if crisis recovery also works on a DV9000 model and if there are other ways around then just by USB floppy drive..

As this is recommended by HP for full Vista compatibility! And I may expect that upgrades from their site will work without problems... but NOT!

None of this stuff is working on my DV9000T, either. :(
    ... and I have a USB Floppy.

Are you sure there are no other key combinations to try besided FN + B or Win + B? This sucker is as dead as a door nail. I keep trying different things and want to post a solution. Where is the beeping coming from? I have to work with earplugs, but it's still bothering everyone else in the house!

Same here... Don't know if other key combination will do the trick, those 2 are the ones I found for HP...
