oops, sorry im new at this! :S
i screwed up my com and it refused to startup, so i put in the windows installation CD and tried to repair windows. but the prompt said that they cant detect my HDD and they asked me to install a SATA RAID driver for my HDD.
my laptop is a HP compac nc4400, and i have a floppy drive, i just need to find the driver. until now still no luck. any kind soul there can help me?

Hmm, you may get into the BIOS Setup menu first (press F1 or F2 or F10 or del on the POST screen), then find SATA mode and change it to 'compatible mode'. Anyway, this might not be the exactly word since it's just depending on manufacturers.

but is there any other way than through BIOS? because, its actually a school laptop, and i screwed it up, and unfortunately, they put a password on the BIOS, so i cant get to the bios xP haha..

Wooo! thanks alot for the help! i managed to get windows cd to detect the HDD by installing the SATA driver first using floppy

but unfortunately, the school is stupid enough to put an administrator password on the C: drive, i cant do a recovery console
but i guess, this one has no solution already
