Can't get on the internet. I did all the usual troubleshooting for both the router and the adapter:
Rebooted router, successfully connected through wire to router..
Deleted and redected network on notebook
    downloaded latest driver for adapter.
    Nothing...

Is my mini pci card shot? One computer guy I know told me that I have to send it to HP to replace b/c the old adapter is soddered to the motherboard.. Is this the case?

the wireless card is seeing networks indicating that it is working.
go into the network and sharing center, then manager wireless networks, and then remove all the networks from the list, you will then have to save your network again when you try connect to it again (i have seen that work)

you can also reseat the wireless card (google hp media services library to show you how)

    also do a BIOS update

you should also try connect to another network (you can try find an unsecured one, see if it works, and then quickly disconnect)

as a last resort you would run a recovery on the computer because HP will most likely tell you to do that before you send it in, or they send you are wireless card.

    hope that helps :)

That's what I meant when I wrote "deleted and rediscovered the network"

How do you do a BIOS update?

    Tried that.. Didn't work

recovery as in restore point or recovery as in reformat?

the link to the download for the BIOS update is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3548481&os=2093&lang=en
basically you download and run the file, it will shut down the computer, so you will have to turn it back on, test it again and hope that it works :)

when i said recovery I meant reformat (F11 on boot). Though you can always try a system restore first.

Not sure if you tried reseating the card yet like I said, because your wireless card could be a bit loose which can be causing this.

    Hope that helps.

PS. The wireless card is not soldered on the motherboard, it fits into a slot on the motherboard, and is customer replacable.

the mini pci card is under the touchpad. unscrew the cover directly behind the pad. you will see 3 module. make sure u have an anti-static strap on or touch metal before touching the module. one of the card should be label Intel WiFi Link 3945ABG, something like that. remove it and reset it. the card is replacable but hp bios only allows hp approved cards.

You could try a winsock reset to see if that will fix the issue. I assume you are running Vista.
    - Click on the Start button.
    - Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
    - Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run the Command Prompt as Administrator.
    - Type netsh winsock reset at the Command Prompt, and press the Enter key.
    - Restart the computer
