Greetings all! Newbee here![]()
I recently purchased a Presario R3000 AMD64 3200 and I'm extremely happy with it except for one thing. I seem to be having problems powering on with just the battery. It's almost as if the computer needs a "jump" from the AC power for it to work. After I unplug the AC cord it runs fine on the battery power. Needless to say this is really weird. Anybody have similar expiriences with their notebooks? I've talked to customer service (don't even get me started on that) and I've followed just about every procedure they've suggested. I've updated the BIOS, tried calibrating the battery, uninstalled the battery controller, resintalled it, taken off the battery pressed the power button for like 60 seconds yada yada and so forth. No dice. If anybody has any suggestions out there it would be a great help!
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, i have almost exactly the same laptop as you and i have been experienceing battery problems too, the origional one that came with my notebook was defective, i had to get a replacement sent. I think that this is just another one of those fluke things. you should be able to call compaq and they will do whatever they have to to get it working again. (the people there are actually quite helpful, open 24 hours too)

Hello: If you have any questions about the poor response of HP/Compaq about power problems, then check out the following site:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=36917
I have never seen such disregard for customers in my entire life. The site was so large and so negative that HP finally closed it down (to be honest, I can't believe they allowed this negative-feedback forum to grow so large).
My advice: either force a permanent resolution to this issue with HP, or put to use your home-states' Lemon Laws and dump this equipment ASAP (especially while it is under 'warranty'). I don't mean to be negative, but I also hate to see folks burned by a bum design. Cover your bases ASAP and protect your investment. Been there, done that.
