hey guys as u may know i recently purchased a compaq c702 notebook (free dos)

i JUST discovered that the SATA CAN be disabled through the bios on my system.
with that outa the way, i wanted to install my xp disk onto the laptop.
after booting and selecting my partition etc.... settup went on to copy the files reqired for installation..... after it reached 100%, it asked for a reboot (as usual) to start the install process. when it rebooted. it asked to boot from the os. ( which i didnt, duh) so i waited for the install to start.... but nothing came up. instead it said "error loading os" and stops there.

i tried making another copy of my xp cd... thinking that the scratches could have done something. tried witht he new cd and the same problem!

i tried the cd on my other machines and it works perfectly well.

i called hp, they told me that my cd should be sp2 integrated.
WOULD INTEGRATING SP2 TO MY XP CD MAKE IT WORK????
i have sp2 on another seperate cd.
if so, how can i integrate sp2 to my xp cd iso. ( what programme to use n how to do it??? )

The HP tech is talking about slipstreaming SP2 onto your XP disk. There are tons on guides on the net(search for "slipstreaming SP2" on google/yahoo etc).

You need to slipstream the SATA drivers in as well as SP2.

I just finished doing it, used a program called nlite

    worked great

The reason you want it native is that it's faster.

he just means that the reason you want SATA enabled is cuz it might be faster

maybe it is your master boot record that needs a little cleanup. i think you can clean it up using the XP CD and its recovery console
