    Hi all!

I REALLY need an answer to this. I am about to go buy an SATA 2.5" drive for my dv9000, and I remember reading in past threads that some people needed a special cradle or mounting bracket to install drives in this machine.

This is the drive I am thinking of buying this:

    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=264

Will I need anything special to connect it, or am I mistaken? If I have to order an interface or bracket, are they ONLY available from HP?

    Thanks!

Oh, PS, this is another link to what the drive looks like if it helps:

What? He's talking about the physical install. Not the sata communications options. Learn to read.

Yes, you have to buy a HDD mounting bracket and the SATA adapter from HP. I believe they are about $40 total if you buy directly from HP, but if you can find them on ebay you might save a little money. Also, if you decide to call HP and order the parts make sure you specifically tell them what laptop it is for and that it is a SATA HDD. I've heard of HP screwing up orders like this before, so just make sure you are specific.

Could anyone refer me to a quick site on Ebay that's cheaper? I imagine there's lots of them out there but sounds like it will be tough to find.

What if I don't use the HP adapter for the install, will it just not plug into the laptop correctly, or is it that it will be bouncing all over the place?

    Thanks.

Sure www.Google.com geez don't be lazy man, I gave you the part number...what a waste of my time to try and help you.

Without the adapter you cant plug it in so you either get the adapter and bracket from HP or you buy an external HD, there is no other option.

I checked the part number and ebay.com. Only one ebay page came up, and that one was a broken link. I wasn't being lazy. I think this is going to be a tough part to find.

Plus, I read a couple of threads on here about that being the wrong part or something, so I'm not even sure what to do now.

I have helped a lot of people on here, I am just asking for the same kindness in turn... :(

Reby, where's the post with the part number, did you delete it?

Anyone have that part number again please?

    Thanks!

You can use the same bracket and parts from the drive you're replacing.

It's not going to be a replacement, it's for the second drive.

So, as I understand it, I'll need the bracket, AND an adapter to actually connect the drive to the machine?

And it looks like all these are expensive, everywhere. What a rip-off. And to boot, they don't ship to Canada from that Ebay retailer.

434106-001 that is the part number to order from HP as REBY said. It comes with the mounting bracket, screws, and adapter.

Yeah it does suck buying this stuff after the fact. That's why its good sometimes to just get the extra HDD, especially if they have a deal going on for it so you have the bracket and adapter.
