Hey Guys
I was wondering if some folks here could help me out. I've had the HP HDX 20" for almost a year now and its been working great. But something has happened recently and I'm wondering if this is a hardware fault or software one.
The HDDVD drive seems to be playing up. It cannot read HDDVDs, it used to work. It can read normal DVDs, but cannot play them. I hear a wierd clicking noise from the drive when I try to play a dvd through any software. Tried through many different players, vlc, windows mce, windows media player, windvd, etc.
Strangely though, it can play a few dvds in my collection. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that these dvds dont have any copy protection on the dvd (says on the back of the cases). Its strange that the drive cannot play protected content.
Audio CDs work totally fine.
Has anyone had this kind of problem before? Its the Toshiba TSL802A drive I think. My warrenty is nearly up so its a good time to happen now I suppose.
I would have thought that if it was a software issue, then I would have got an error message or something, rather than physically not being able to read the disk. Is copy protected dvds harder to read than non copy ones?
Finally, has anyone who had an HDDVD drive in their laptop, had a replacement drive from HP since HDDVD went down the pan? Do HP still have these drives in stock or will I get a BluRay or normal DVD drive as a replacement?
Many Thanks
Pete
