    HIDDEN FILES in HP

    hello
    i am new to this forum
    and i want to know something about the hidden files and follders which i am unable to open even in 'folder options' i mark the box 'show hidden files' and when i apply it automaticaaly marks 'do not show hidden files' instead of showing hidden files i have also done new installation.
    i am using HP laptop with windows XP HOME EDITION SP2
    plz help

    and if they are hidden then how do u know they are there......

    cause i had hide some of the folders

    hmm well do a search of the files/folders and tick the show hidden files option in the search menu and when u find them right click on them go to properties and untick the hidden option.

    this is of course if u didnt use a 3rd party program to hide or encrypt the data

    but its difficult do that everytime ..... what is the problem, why it cant be done in the normal manner when their is a option, why its not working

    i dont know, are u running as administrator? could be your security/antivirus package that has done this? or perhaps even a virus or similar? could be just an option in the services applet.

    is there is any other way even its not opening these files in my other computer and i had done a fresh installation so there must be no viruses

    help me out

    Those files have lost their owner, to get access to them, you need to start in safe mode (F8) then log as administrator or an account with administrator rights. Right click the folders you need to get access, and under security tab take full folder ownership , then you can access them as usual.

    kekinash, this is XP HOME it doesnt have the ownership thing, havent seen it in XP home install

    it has, but only in safe mode!!!!

    is there any way to view hidden files/folders in vista/????
