I received some recovery discs with my laptop ordered from HP Direct and I noticed on the disc labels there is no reference to the model of laptop I bought.

Are these recovery discs customized to restore my laptop to its factory conditions with the specific drivers it had OTB or are they "generic" HP windows recovery without the specific drivers?

Are the discs labeled? You could have disc1 and disc2 as Os recovery and disc3 as drivers+utilities.

Or they could be meant for certain model range, like all models from 1100 to 1300.

In the first case they would be HP generic and latter is more model-specific. I've seen both in the wild :)

They will be the specific ones. If they aren't ask for a full refund :)

Generic ones would allow the always wanted clean install.

They don't have any model numbers listed, Disk 1 and 2 contain 64-bit System Recovery DVD "for distribution with a new HP or Compaq PC" and disk 3 is application and driver recovery ("for distribution with a new HP or Compaq PC").

I was concerned because there is no mention of my specific laptop model that it would not be identical to the recovery partition to restore to the factory conditions for my particular model, but instead would restore windows with generic HP drivers and HP bloatware.

Basically, I want to delete my recovery partition but don't know if it's safe to do so without making my own recovery disks, which would make the $19 I spent on these disks pointless.

But you will have recovery disks for your exact model laptop. The cost of DVD's on sale now makes them about 20-25 cents each. If you lived near me I would sell you 3 brand name DVD's for $1.00. Ask a friend. I say better safe than sorry.

From my experience with HP, the recovery discs come with the default software and drivers for your specific laptop model.
