I just purchased a 12-Cell(EV12) battery and I am charging it directly using the built in AC Port (AC Charger to Battery with my 120w HP Charger) and the battery is extremely hot near and below the contact pins, is this normal?

I don't think so. Mine is barely warm when charging (or any other time). Seeing as yours is new and under warranty, maybe it would be prudent to exchange it.

I think I am going to exchange it, but the strange thing is the battery is working properly, it does not get hot when charged via the laptop directly only when charging it through the AC port on the battery and the battery itself has full capacity

And even if the battery doesn't explode, the excessive heat can damage your system!!!

If he has a DV5 or lower, HP was actually using the battery as a heatsink of sorts allowing it to soak up some of the heat discharge. I agree with everyone else that if it's under warranty, don't hesitate. Send it in.
