As I felt my year old nc6400 is getting too heavy to lug around while running all over the place (not to mention a little overpowered for travel), I've been contemplating for a while over getting an ultraportable notebook. I was initially eyeing the Thinkpad X300 (telling myself I'd jump for it as soon as it's available), but the disappointing battery life and high price made me rethink my decision.

I then decided on the 2510p as it has the specs that match my needs. I don't need the faster hard disk nor the fast processor as I really needed excellent battery life. With the amazing feature set at a great price, I'm surprised nobody even talks about the 2510p.

Several points I could make upon delivery (direct from Shanghai):
    • Very light (approx 1.35kg), thin and small
    • Full-size comfortable keyboard, with generous Enter and right Shift keys. Keyboard is textured and feels really good, better than previous generation keyboards.
    • Very nice touchpad (I'm not a trackpoint person)
    • Protruding 6-cell battery is aesthetically unpleasant, but thankfully is at the back, so you don't notice it much.
    • Expected HP Compaq business notebook quality. Very sturdy, no loose bits.
    • Nice LED backlit screen, but poor vertical viewing angle. No grain.
    • No flex or bouncing keyboard like Portege R500.
    • Ultra thin DVD drive.
    • Notebook stays cool, but AC adaptor gets pretty hot.

I'll post more pics and perhaps a mini review when I'm free over the weekend. Let me know if there's anything of interest.

The 2510p has a great keyboard and out of curiosity, I took a look and found that it uses a Chicony keyboard!
