From my IBM Thinkpad days I greatly prefer pointing stick devices to touchpads. The Notebook Review of the 2510p noted the pointing stick malfunctions sometimes and calls up multiple windows uncontrollably. I can confirm it does do this, but it can be stopped surely and simply by turning off the touchpad when you are using the pointer. The malfunction is an interaction between one's hand proximity to the pad while using the stick. Once the touchpad is disabled (one touch sensitive button press at top of keyboard), the 2510p pointer works very well and is faster and more responsive than an IBM's. I love the pointer and love my 2510p!!!

PS: I get two hours with the 3 cell battery and 8 hours with the 9 cell. Not exactly a linear progression. 9 cell is heavy so go with the 6 cell. Also the docking station is excellent and has a cool blue light when locked.

Can't you just decrease the sensitivity of the touchpad?

I have the pointing thinging on the keyboard too, and I love it.

No, they don't seem to be able to co-exist no matter what the setting.

I found it very hard to find a lightweight laptop with a pointer that wasn't a $3K IBM. very glad I took the chance on the 2510p!
