Hello people. Just purchased a 2510p, man this thing is super tiny, just what I was looking for in terms of portability. What I like about it is that HP does not load or add any bloatware into this machine. But i'm stunned that it takes over four minutes to reach the main desktop screen. When it reaches the desktop screen the drive LED light indicator located in the front of the notebook is still blinking. I have not loaded anything to this machine until I figure out why its taking so long to boot. The only reason why I bring this up, is that my old Compaq Evo n610c P4 XP Pro SP2 notebook loaded in under a minute, it was pretty quick and I had a good amount of software installed. Any tips or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Since you just got it, have you tried reformatting yet?

It should only take 1minute to get to the log in screen max, specially if its new and you have good specs. I used to get 3-4min boot up times with the HP bloatware, after the clean install i get 45sec boot up time. You shouldnt be getting 4min boot up times if hp didnt load any bloatware

hp usually just puts an image of the OS into the Hard drive to save time. Im guessing the Image their using is slow and unoptimized.

It may be useful to keep in mind that the 2510p comes with a slow 4200 rpm HD unless you got it with the SSD. I think that may be a major contributing factor. As previously mentioned, a clean install will also help quite a bit with load times because the HP business machines do ship with bloatware. You should have the recovery disk for Vista and the HP driver CD. When you get to the driver CD only install the essentials and avoid the bloatware. The only program I kept of HP's was the HD 3D DriverGuard Moniter.

Orev's "Clean Vista Install With No Activation" (a sticky at the beginning of the HP & Compaq Forum) will make a huge difference in boot time including running PerfectDisk and DefragBootFiles.bat (DefragBootFiles.zip provided by ScuderiaConchiglia in the Sony Forum under "Instructions for a Vista clean install on an FZ190".)
