I apologize if this has been discussed before, but does anyone know who the OEM is for the 256GB drive that HP puts into its laptops?
The drive can be bought by itself from their spare parts store for a very good price so I am interested in seeing the the hardware is good.
If someone could supply the OEM and even a model number it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
this is the one I am looking at:

Samsung...they're all from Samsung, and most of Samsung's drives are not worth it. Only the VERY latest Samsung drives (that support TRIM) are *maybe* okay and you have no way to know what you are getting with HP's stock.

256gb for about $340 had my attention though haha
Can you elaborate on why it is not worth it? -
For that price, it's a good buy. While not quite as fast as Intel or Indilinx, it's quite a bit cheaper and still well above any HDD. For $340, I'd take the 256GB Samsung over say the Intel 160GB or Indilinx 128GB.

then head on over to the HP spare parts store and get the part number I had in the OP
the HP spare parts store often has some awesome deals, like a QX9300 OEM for $502.55 or a T9900 OEM for $340 -

Even the older Samsungs have been pretty good with degradation. Besides TRIM is overrated.

Since i use a software for "manual TRIM" my Patriot SSD, the performances are much better.
This software is distributed directly by Patriot but i think that is only for Indilinx SSDs -

Which Samsung(s) are you talking about? The PM800 (PB22-J) that I've tried was consistently much faster than any HDD (like my current WD Blue 320GB).
