Hi all - finally got my DV2799ea replaced - it has 4GB ram installed but Vista reports it as 3075mb - any ideas?
Also - this thing comes crammed with useless software - I wish I could downgrade it to XP - runs slower than the laptop I'm replacing. Unbelievable.

The missing memory is reserved for the graphics card. After looking into this product it shows that the graphics card has a total of 1407MB available with 128 dedicated meaning that the rest is taken from the computers RAM. You should be able to change this in the bios if you wish to get it back

Are you running Vista 32-bit? If so, it will never be able to "see" the full 4GB, and will only ever report ~3GB of RAM as available. You'll have to upgrade to Vista 64-bit if you want to use all 4GB.

Ahh right so HP saying it is supplied with 4GB memory and runs Vista 32 bit is pulling the wool over your eyes a bit...
