I'm in the process of finding a key-pad equipped notebook and came upon 4510s. Just wonder, is the noise problem mentioned in the review still persists? Did HP issue an update to mitigate the issue?

Besides, after a few months of handling, are there any new issues? How's the build quality holding up?

    Thanks in advance!

    Anybody...?

BTW, I have an offer for a up-scale 4510s for about $1k, what do you think?

    - Intel T9600 (2.8GHz, 6MB L2)
    - 4GB RAM
    - 320GB/7200RPM
    - ATI HD4330 (512MB)
    - 6-cell
    - 3-yr warranty
    - Vista Business (free upgarde to Win7 Pro)

I don't have any experience with HP's business notebooks, but unless you really need the T9600 with a 6MB cache I'd give a look at one equipped with a "P" 3MB cache series CPU. Looks like they offer a P8700 with these models.

One so equipped would run much cooler and offer significantly better battery life because the "P" series use 25w as opposed to the 35w "T" series CPUs. Might help offset the "fan issue" as well.

    Just my 2 cents....

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, it's an institutional offer so there's only one config. (The others are of different models.)

The noise issue is not as bad as I've thought. In the dining room, I am not aware of the fan running at all during light usage, and only when the machine is turned on and off do I notice that there is a fan running.

Under heavy load, the fan does generate quite some noise, but I think that's the case with every laptop out there anyway.

In a general office environment, I don't think it would be an issue at all.

The LED-backlit LCD screen is very bright (mine is matte screen), probably TOO bright. Colour rendition is subpar compared to an IPS screen. Colour patches are easily visible in photos. Guess the gamma curve is cranked up too much.

And it's really a fingerprint magnet.
