Hope I,m in the right forum. I have an HP 530 Notebook. When I boot, and after logging in, as the desk top starts to appear, It flashes black, then desktop, then black and so on 3 times and then desktop is loaded and all is ok. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? Its been doing it for a long time.

This is likely normal behavior for a system that is loading too many apps at start and/or is sharing system memory with video.
    Some suggestions:

    1. go to “msconfig” and deselect everything that is in the startup folder except your antivirus program.
    2. clear your prefetch folder.
    3. update your BIOS, chipset, video, and audio drivers if not up to date
    4. run CCleaner or similar type program
    5. if your 530 is as delivered, and has only 1GB of RAM and Vista, consider upgrading to 2GB.
    6. defrag the hard drive

All of the above are harmless, and should improve your systems performance.

    Hope that helps,

    Best, Dave
