Can the A/C adapter that you currently have be used to give power to the laptop so that it can be turned on?

There is very little battery left so it has been turned off for awhile since I don't want it to die completely.

Unfortunately, it doesn't charge at all right now...

Will the computer turn on with only the A/C adapter?
    (without the battery connected)

Computer can turn on without A/C adapter because there's little bit of battery left, but it won't charge with A/C adapter. So I left it off because I don't want the battery to completely die...

Can the computer be turned on without the battery? If so, then it might not be the fault of the AC adapter.

There are 3 components that I can think of that could have failed.
    1) AC adapter
    2) charging circuit on the motherboard
    3) battery itself

I tried turning the laptop on with A/C adapter and without battery and it does not boot.

Since the laptop boots with battery, but does not charge with A/C adapter..

So charging circuit may have problem? If so, do you think it's worth it to fix it or just sell it cheap for parts?

Sounds like the A/C adapter is not working. Most laptops can still be powered on without a battery.
You can't really make sure unless you have another AC adapter to test with.

Computer tech is really cheap nowadays. It's up to you to check how much it would cost you to purchase an AC adapter and how much you think you can realistically sell it for.

edit: OK, I see that the AC adapter would cost you $12. That seems pretty reasonable to me. Seems like you could try sell the PC for one or two hundred.
