    Hey all,

I just purchased a new 6500t with discrete nVidia graphics. It came with Vista and I cleaned house and installed a fresh XP Home installation. One problem I'm currently having is that the laptop screen won't come back on after I wake it up from standby.

I know the system is running, as I can do things like turn the wi-fi on and off and hear the OS doing things in the background. I've tried using fn-F4 to change display modes, but that doesn't do anything. Hitting other keys or the touchpad doesn't do anything either.

I have the 165 forceware drivers installed, and everything seems ok on the graphics end when its running before it goes to standby. If I hold down the power button and restart the system, the screen comes back up without issue. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this?

    Thanks!

Has it been doing that since you installed XP Home or is this a more recent issue?

Only since the downgrade to XP. My guess is something with the video driver or something to do with the board. Like I said, the system knows its awake... but the screen doesn't come back except at reboot. All of my driver listings look good (no yellow exclamation points) as I followed one of the guides for downgrading.

my hp dv6500 has the same problem, but I still have vista home premium installed. Sometimes it won't wake up from sleep mode. this usually only happens after i re-open the lid. i also know the computer is running... the hardware works (i can turn on and off the wifi and scroll pad), but software related things do not work (the mute button does not turn orange when i press it).

My nc6000 has the same problem. screen stays black even though system is obviously up and running. I think it's just YAWXPB (yet another windows xp bug). Call Bill G. and say "Thanks" for this wonderful "feature"..

I currently have two DV6500Ts, one integrated, one with 8400GS, and they've both got stuck when opening the lid using XP.

A user who read my guide sent me some information. I haven't tried this yet, but I'll share the info. Here's what they said.

go to --> http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14217 and download the driver and modded inf
i followed this walkthrough sorta http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33 i just extracted and placed the modded inf file in the folder. I then ran setup (its in the folder) restarted the computer and presto i've put it to sleep twice and it awoke without any problems. Under Device Manager/Display Adapter I now get NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS where before I got some weird entry. hope it helps you.

robvia: Thanks for the info... but this is just the standard driver install for the latest mobile nVidia GPUs. Doesn't seem to help, although when you follow the have-disk procedure on the web site, it will help eliminate the improperly named video card in the driver display. Not really a big deal, but... makes things look cleaner.

Anyone else have a dv6500 with a 8400 GS that you've downgraded/upgraded to XP and successfully get it to come out of sleep mode? Any idea what you did to make this work?

Quick Fix: Close the lid and reopen it. Seemed to work on my DV6305US. My new DV6000Z doesn't have the problem.

I'm pretty sure that it is an issue with the drivers...165.01 is known for having issues when returning from standby. I would try a lower version (163.15 was posted above, I think that one works.) Make sure to use something like driver sweeper ( http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper ) to remove leftover components of a previous driver before installing a new one.

Speedy21589: You are a god! That was exactly the problem. I downgraded to the 163.15 driver and voila! In and out of sleep mode with no problems now! Thanks a lot! Also thanks for the driver sweeper link... that helped make sure I did it right!

I spent the last week trying to set up a dual boot XP/Vista with my new HP dv6500t. We got close, but ended up in a loop always ending with that fun blue screen of death . . . . HP Total Care write " I regret for the inconvienince caused to you in this regard. Please note that you will not be able to install Xp on your unit as you will have issues working on that Operating system due to unavailability of Drivers. I do understand how frustrating this would be, however please note taht we will not be able to provide a replacement or refund for your unit." I am now waiting to hear from my HP "Case Manager." Although I could not find it a few weeks ago, HP now has a warning about trying to load XP on some new Vista machines:
