Hi,
I am about to buy my new laptop and I am between these two. I am a casual user; just for school work and daily usage. No gaming or intense stuff.
Also, I was between HP (these two) and Dell XPS 1530, and I decided on HP. Is that a good decision?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

no you made a big mistake if you already ordered the HP.
the HP is too weak for the size and class, think the NV8400GS with 256 GDDR2 is much weaker than the Dell's NV8600GT with 256mb GDDR3.
so go for the Dell , you wont regret it.
also, Dell has much better screen options , WXGA+ , WSXGA+ and LED. -
out of the two HPs, the standard 6700t is better because it is cheaper
its not worth the 200 for an (arguably) better look -
It's all about personal preference. I for one definitely think the premium is worth it for the special edition's aesthetic look AND feel. The whole keyboard and trackpad feel much more comfortable to type on and use with the special edition. IMO, the plastic feels higher quality with its smooth texture and crisp responsiveness with the keys. But it is up to you.
I am very happy with the build quality and use it for class (notetaking, term paper writing, reading pdf files, wireless internet access at hotspots) on a daily basis. I do not play games on this machine, so the 8400M is perfect. Besides, I enjoy having a decent battery life and having a notebook that doesn't get hot in my lap. Infact, the notebook only gets luke warm after being on all day. -
If you want really high build quality, go for the business line of HP/Compaq notebooks

I agree the dv6700t is a very good design. HP has really nice screens and much better speakers then the generic crap that dell uses. For your stated usage, the integrated graphics x3100 might be sufficient and will give you more battery life and run a tad cooler. If you don't play games you won't notice any performance differences. The problem with that is the x3100 does not come with the HDMI. So If you want to connect this to HDTV I recommend the 8400m gs and the 12 cell battery. I'm thinking if you order the x3100 you will probably get decent battery life with just the hi capacity 6 cell. So you see there are some trade offs when going with dedicated graphics.

But yeah, if money is a factor, you can save yourself a benji or two by going with the standard model. Seeing as the SE model is white, it'll look more pristine until it starts getting dirty, like REAL dirty. If you see people with one year old macbooks, the whole back is all dirtied up especially the palm rest.
Seeing as how I'm really into visual looks, I'd PERSONALLY get it anyway lol.
I'm almost sure the build quality is the same if not slightly different, but i'm not 100% sure. -
I am just curious. -

But Dell had the better keyboard I have ever typed on, I have a R61 but I think the XPS and Latitude have better keyborads than the Lenovo's.
But very unfortunately,I had to sned it back to Dell as they asked me to , but I really wanted to keep it because I was very fond of the Dell M1530.
Dont get me wrong , I am not hating HP or disliking it , I like HP business models and workstations, but pavillions are really disappointing if these pavillions had a better LCD resolution and better GPU, I would choose the HP over anything else cause HPs are usually very quiet and reliable with better build than other consumer models..... the XPS was noisy, my M1330 is not noisy but it is not what I really want to have for a long time , just a temporal compromise unit until I can find a similar laptop to my loved M1530..
I really need a 14.1 or 13.3 laptop with a decent GPU but I can't find it.
So hope all you guys find something you really like to keep for a while.
PS. The HP DV3000T is a real cool looking laptop , you should see it in person. -
I disagree about the white finish looking dirty over time. Yeah, if you have sweaty, soiled hands, it will collect dirt. But the texture is very smooth, so you just need to wipe it down with a cloth and the laptop will look good as new. This isn't any grain texture any where on the surface to trap dirt. Clean your notebook once a week and it will continue to look great.
I've tried the dv6700tse with both a 12 cell and 6 cell. The 12 cell is far too bulky and heavy to be worth the increased capacity. It adds on another pound, which is a lot. The notebook is already heavy enough when carrying it around all day inside a case, along with the AC adapter brick. I haven't tested the lifespan for the 8400M config, but last night I used an X3100 configuration, and I ran it on a 6-cell battery non-stop for word processing and web browsing from 6:30pm to 11:45pm and it was still going strong. I know the 8400M uses the battery up a lot faster. I haven't tested it, but I was still able to take notes in three classes without problems. So it's greater than 3 hours.
One thing to note. The X3100 notebooks use significantly smaller and lighter AC adapter bricks than the 8400M configurations.
Another thing I love about the HP is the Pioneer DVDRW drive. It is absolutely the first notebook drive that I have used that is whisper quiet when playing DVDs. You can watch a movie (including HD x264s) and the dvd drive is inaudible without having to use any software to slow it down. Word of warning though. I ordered four HPs, and one of them came with a TSST drive. Sounds like a jet taking off and never spins down during the movie. Yikes. -
Is it true that hp pavilion 6700t have some problems with, audio , screen, and heating (I read that it's heat reaches 115 F ,Is that too much for a laptop)?
If not,Are these specifications good?
(I'll use it in programming,Database, image processing, and maybe some light games (such as bigfish games)

Is there a big deffirence between dual core & Core2Duo?
Is Intel Core Duo processor T2390 (1.83 GHz) a good processor or not?
Generally,Which is better HP, or Dell, or Toshiba?
Final question which is better : HP Pavilion dv6500t , HP Pavilion dv6700t , Dell inspiron 1420, Dell inspiron 1525 if their specifications are almost the same? -

In light games, gotta love the x3100. thought its an IGP, counterstrike and battlerealms was a no prblem. Old games. Processor, 1.83......kinda laggy running dreamscene and deskscapes. the x3100 can handle fairly dreamscene, but puts great stress on the CPU, so basically you need a faster processor to make aero and dreamscenes (if you use ultimate) more functional. in my experience, i dunno bout the others. Audio wise, Perfect. Heat, depends on tasks. screen, average. m1530 beats the crap out of hp's screens, plus offers a good res. Noise? nah. very quiet. Build, fashion, i wud go with hP's. i find the XPS m1530 keyboards annoying, i hated the texture, compared to hp's matte keyboards.
