    Hi,

Just got a HP 6715b and have the following questions. All set up ok but

    1. Why does it have sql server 2005 on. I know this comes with a lot of software loaded.
    2. I was going to remove norton and put nod 32 on !!
    3. With the recovery CD's does this put it to exactly the same step as when you get it out the box ie gives the option for 64 as I have taken 32 at the moment as there is limited support
    4. Can you get from HP a copy of the windows oem cds 64 bit ?
    5. Is there any alternative to office 2007. Looked at star office but wanted to know if there any olthers around ?

    Thanks for any help.

    1. Its just another preinstalled software
    2. To remove norton completely, make sure you get the norton uninstaller from symantec's website
    3. It puts it to factory state
    4. No, not without paying
    5. Yeah, OpenOffice is pretty good

    Many Thanks for the info.

I take it that the sql can just be uninstalled
factory state so I can load 64 bit although I would like to get the cd from hp as clean install etc. Any ideas roughly how much ?

I will have a look at openoffice.

    Many Thanks,

    Mark.

the cd from hp will cost the same as a retail copy of vista,
hp does not sell OEM cds for a discount, instead they make you create the recovery discs with the bloatware on them

SQL is an acronym for Standard Query Language. Why is it on your laptop is the real question. DO you have a version of MS Office on your system? If you do then Access installs this in order to incorportate and translate tables from other DBs.

Yes trial version of office 2007 60 day eval but I know with sql and norton it is not a good mix for the machine to boot/run well. Can I remove this part as I don't think I will use sql for anything ?
