The real life battery life tests seems to differ hugely on these models. According to some reviews both the 6730b and 6530b should give approximately 3 hours under heavy load and 5-6 hours in low performance mode. Also, HP states up top 6 hours on their site.

However, other reviews found on the web that also tested these models seem to get only 1h 40 min under heavy load and 3 hours in low performance mode. When I do my own testing on the 6730b I get these low numbers as well. It is very disappointing since the one of the main reasons to go for this laptop was the battery life.

This is really strange, do HP ship these models with different batteries?

According to these reviews the 6730b and 6530b should have great battery life:

    geek.com/articles/chips/review-hp-compaq-6730b-notebook-20080912
"The battery on this notebook should last about 4-5 hours, depending on how liberal you are with the power-saving features."

    crn.com/hardware/210604877
"Using the Test Center's standard battery life exam, we disabled all power-saving options on the notebook and ran a video off the hard drive, continuously, until the system shut down. With this method, the battery lasted about 3 hours and 30 minutes -- much longer than most notebooks we've looked at this year."

    notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4692
"My battery first test surprised me. It lasted 5h40 with default settings"

    computershopper.com/reviews/hp-compaq-6730b-laptop-review
"The 6730b lasted just under three hours in our battery-drain test, which means you should get close to six hours of runtime with the power-management features enabled. We found this particularly impressive because the notebook weighs 1.7 pounds less than the Cyberpower."

    pcworld.com/reviews/product/32085/review/compaq_6530b.html
"the 6530b is no slouch, lasting for about 4 hours, 22 minutes in our tests"

These tests on the other hand differ and show much lower battery life:

    zdnet.com.au/reviews/hardware/laptops/soa/HP-Compaq-6730b/0,2000065761,339293438,00.htm
"In order to test battery life, we set screen brightness to 50 per cent, turned off the sound and then played a DVD. This yielded a poor score of one hour and 45 minutes (105 minutes)."

    asiaone.com/Digital/Reviews/Story/A1Story20081015-93892.html
Finally, the notebook lasts just 120 minutes - the shortest battery life in this round-up.

EDIT: I spoke to the HP support today and they confirmed that 6730b is shiped with diffrent batteries. Sometimes with a high capacity battery that should last up to 6 hours and sometimes with a battery that should last up to 4,5 hours. This explains the diffrent benchmark results above.
