Hi guys, I've tried trouble shooting this problem to no avail.

Basically the quicklaunch touch buttons don't do anything. I press the mute button, it lights/flashes then goes blank, and it does not mute the speakers. Volume control does the same - flashes but does nothing, ditto with infocentre/presentation and my Wireless is permantly on (fine as I need it on anyway!).
I've tried uninstalling/re-installing different QuickLaunch driver versions. No difference (v6.30 and 6.40). Does not work on either Vista or XP (dual boot).
Tried different BIOS versions (F.0C and latest F.10). I'm sure it occured with the update to F.10 but rolling back to F.0C didn't help.
I'll try older BIOS versions now. Maybe it was the HP Info Centre update? But I didn't (untill now) install it on XP so it can't be, so its got to be BIOS right?!

Any ideas? I really like using the mute and volume buttons against having to click on the taskbar volume slider!

To answer my own problem, if anyone else comes across it, you need to shut down the notebook, take out AC power and the battery, then re-insert battery and AC power. This 'resets' the touch strip, and solved my problem.

I don't know about the consumer series notebooks. My one now works properly. I know if you press mute at the logon screen the light goes orange and mutes, but when you login, it unmutes but the light stays orange, so you press the mute again and it evens everything up (mute goes on, light goes on). On the business models its either orange for mute on or not on at all/no light, so I presume thats blue to you.
Hope that helps otherwise I suggest you check out the HP support forums and do a search there. HP Support Forums

I'm sorry I can't help you guys there. a) I have the business notebook, not consumer line so I don't have quickplay (all though there is an option to enable Windows Quick view or whatever it is where you can view e-mail etc without 'powering on' the notebook, or thats how I see it, as I've never contemplated using it, so don't ask me about it ;). and b) I have no idea why the quick launch buttons ceased to work. All I know is that it was after flashing the BIOS to the latest version and possibly upgrading the drivers.
I'm glad I found the answer on the support forums because I was about to do fresh installs of Windows!

I have a new DV5Z with the 3450 graphics card and it runs great. I just downgraded it to XP which has resulted in an easy 2x speed increase in almost all functions. This was necessary for some software I was running.

I have all functions operating except 1 and HP tech support acts like the question is from Mars even though it is documented on their own web site.

Here is the issue: The speaker light indicator (quick launch panel on the keyboard) does not function properly. When you start the machine, it is white (indicating speaker on) but as soon as the XP logo screen dissappears it changes to orange. It still works in turning the speaker on and off, but no longer changes color to indicate such.

If I load the latest driver and codec from IDT - the light stays white but sound no longer works - error message in device manager says "driver could not start". Tried manually starting the driver through adminstrative services in control panel - but that does not work. As soon as I go back to the old driver - sound and volume work great - but the indicator light is now orange all the time.

Has anyone sucessfully downgraded to XP and gotten this to work? Can you specify the driver? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as this is the last little hurdle to clear.

Please feel free to email me directly at: thx1326.at.swbell.dot.net.

    Thanks in advance.
