I bought HP 6930p with ATI graphic card, WIN 7, and connected to the external display 24" (1920x1080) trough VGA port. There is a very noticable blurry and annoying image on external display. I tried different settings, but nothing did not help. Is there any solution to this problem? could be my graphic card or vga output damaged? Since with my 4 years old toshiba notebook, image was clear.

Has anybody docking station and is DVI output working fine (clear image)?

Some graphics cards are pretty sensitive to the VGA cable used, so you can try a different VGA cable. DVI output through the dock will most likely get rid of this issue too. I've had the same problem on one of my older laptops and I had to switch VGA cables.

If you are unlucky, it's possible that even better VGA cable doesn't work well enough (probably the ramdac doing the conversion from digital -> analog vga just isn't that good).

In that case you could consider a docking station, the older models are pretty cheap as used: I paid my advanced docking station 68$ (45 euros actually), including 120W power supply. That's the one with multibay and expresscard slots. Basic models (like PA286A) with just port replicating features are roughly third cheaper, yet they also have a DVI port.

Today I carried home 21,5" fullhd display, I'm planning to use it as an external monitor with my 8510w as soon as I get it back from service. Attached to the very DVI port in my docking station.

With DVI there is no analog conversion, signal is pure digital all the way to the monitor and pretty much error free. At least that is what I am hoping for :D

Make sure the external monitor is using it's own native resolution and not that of the 6930p lcd panel.
Set the external monitor as your primary display or use the video utility to hook up to projector, in this case that would be the external monitor
