you know how the thinkpad has the "red dot" thingo on the keyboard, well after reading a few reviews i saw that other people who purchased the 8510p had "blue not" navigator thing on keyboards, well mine doesnt have it! i called up hp and asked a consultant and they said it doesnt have it. is this because im in australia? or because they didnt ship me the right laptop, it says 8510p and all.

Its most likely not available in australia. Mine has it but I live in the US. Ackeron has it, but he lives in... canada, i think.

Not all 8510p models have the trackpoint. It is optional and offered in some of the mid-higher end models.

AFAIK, in the US, the pointstick ("blue dot") is standard on all 8510 models. It may be different if you live in a different country/region

I think you probably got the RQ555AV base unit configuration, in which case you didn't configure it with the enhanced pointing devices option as HP calls it. Preconfigured models in Australia should have the blue trackpoint.

I guess they had to cut cost somewhere. Oh well...........still worth it though, since a pre configured model with those specs would be $1000 more.

The " blue dot" is a retarded version of the " red dot", so I would not cry about that anyway... lol.. :D

Don't worry, the trackpoint on here is so bad you can't really use it anyway. It requires far too much force to register an input.

You can have mine(8510W) the track pad is great but the fingerstick(and fingersticks in general) are a waste imho.

You can change the force requirements, but I find it's either too mushy (moves too easy, jiggles, impossible to be accurate) or it becomes rock solid and a real *@&#@ to move. But hey, then it's accurate!

On my nw8440, by default, the pointstick is too stiff. Increasing the sensitivity alleviates the problem, but it gets stiff again as the cap wears out/gets softer. Problem is, the cap wears out too quickly. I'm already on my 3rd pointstick cap after just over a year of use.

It isn't nearly as good as a ThinkPad Pointstick, but once you set the sensitivity to a comfortable level, it should do the job. Unless you're used to a ThinkPad pointstick :p.
