I have a HP Compaq 8510w Mobile Workstation. I'm very happy with it and would highly recommend this model.

I recently purchased the HP-recommended docking station for this model, which is the HP Advanced Docking Station with Smart Adapter EN489UT. I'm happy with it and have it connected to a 22" LCD monitor via DVI. Unfortunately, I noticed that there is a peculiar noise on the audio out port. It's a low-level digital-sounding interference. It's a bit annoying when listening to tracks with silent segments. The interference is there all the time and nothing I do changes it's magnitude. All my video connects seem to be well shielded. Interestingly, this interference is not on the laptop's audio out jack. I actually returned the first docking station I received for a replacement due to this problem. The replacement had the same problem. Is this common with HP docking stations? Should I try the other model number EN489AA? (BTW, I cannot tell the difference between this UT and AA models other than a price difference. Can anyone provide any insight?)

While this is a relatively minor problem, I feed this docking station is rather expensive and something like this should work flawlessly.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same laptop, the EN488UT docking station and a 22 inch samsung lcd monitor...
Running xp and connected to a creative 5.1 system I don't get any funny noises at all.
I think my docking station is the lower featured one then yours.
    But I love it..

The interference could be from various sources including the audio chip. How is the audio cable run, to what type of output speakers, and what are some of the surrounding sources that could interfere?

I would start with proccess of elimination.

I confirmed the issue using 3 diff standard docks and 2 diff 8510ws. Anyone found a fix for this yet? I am using the laptop's audio jack for now.
