Hi, Ive come across an unusual problem. I currently have a HP Compaq 8510w, and Vista Business installed (I reproduced this with Windows XP as well). It seems that when I am using battery mode (not plugged into AC) I get annoying stuttering with the touch pad/mouse as well as anything i do (Video stutters aswell). I have reproduced this both with Windows XP and with Windows Vista. I am starting to think think this is directly related to the video drivers (I have tried some, its hit and miss). Does anyone with this laptop have the same issues? Im scratching my head trying to figure out what is happening. As soon as the AC is unplugged, it stutters right away.

Update to the problem. This seems to stop if I reinstall the driver, but comes back after a couple reboots/hours. Reinstalling the drivers seems to take care of the problem for a short time.

I am using 16316 drivers in my 8510w
I have used mine(xp) under battery(great battery life) for at least several hours and never noticed what you mention.
    Good luck

    Isolated the issues.

This issue is caused by the new Intel ProSet Wired Drivers (12.3). When a network cable is plugged into the laptop, or a power cable is plugged in, the problem stops. Downgrading the network drivers resolved the issue for me (for both windows xp and vista)

Thanks for taking the time to share your solution!

Have been reading _a lot_ on this site the last few weeks and have now ordered the 8510w. Will also try to share my experience if I find anything interesting. :)

most likely it is a driver issue
