Basically just the question about the GPUs. Which one would be better between the Quadro Fx 1600 and the NVS 320m.

    Thanks in advance.

They are the same GPU, basically. If you're using proffesional OpenGL apps, you'll want the FX. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter that much.

Their both equivalent to the 8700GT, so go for the cheaper one (8710p).

That's what I'm confuse about, why would Nvidia make the same GPUs with 2 different names ?

They usually make more than two same GPUs with different names... The reason is greed, I think ;)

Both share the same GPU, only question here is if one could load fx driver over nvs hardware.. many tested here with 8700GT driver with no problem. Not sure if there is any hardware lock / Bios lock on the card.. hope someone could enlighten..

They're 'different' because the GPU drivers are tweaked for optimizations in different markets. Gamers want one thing, business professionals another, and workstation people yet other things.

I understand the gaming and workstation such as 3D graphics. But could you give me an example of business professional use ? I thought it's the same as workstation use.

Not entirely correct Greg, there are hardware differences on the FX line, with additional accelaration features needed for optimum OpenGL performance.

No, the NVS drivers are tweaked for low heat output and power consumption and optimized for basic 2d business tasks.

So, for the intensive Graphics using, the FX would be a better choice, right ???

What kind of intensive graphics uses? The FX is the "best" (performance) version of the card, technically speaking.

when you are talking of graphics, what are you exactly thinking of ?
    Photoshop ?

If you do talk about 3d, let´s say professional 3d applications, the quadro fx-cards from nvidia and ati´s firegl-cards will give you better viewport performance. But this is only for OpenGL based applications like maya, softimage, unigraphics, rhino....
3dsMax for example will not have any advantages from the professional cards, since it´s actually way faster in D3D. So for max, a Consumer-card will do just fine.

Since Realtime Rendering in most of the professional apps is still quite bad compared to real raytracing you won´t have any benefit in producing images with these cards. Unless you like bad quality pictures.......

So everything thats left is viewport performance, these cards will make it possible to open and work on very big scenes (including hardware lightning) with a lot of detail.

Maybe you should tell us what you intend to do with your laptop, and we could tell you if it makes sense to spent the extra money, or better save it.

    @ odin243

maybe you are correct, and maybe nvidia has changed somthing for these cards.
think back ... the last four years it was possible to tweak nvidias and ati´s consumer gaming cards into professional cad cards.
while it still is possible to do a drivermod for the ati cards , nvidia stopped people from doing so with the 7000 series of their consumer cards. including the 6800 ultra series it was possible to do such a software tweak to set free the pro capabilities. since then nvidia decided to prevent this by a hardware lock.

But the cards gpu´s, the professional and the gaming gpu´s are the same.
Only difference between these cards is usually a better memory and / or memory controller for the pro´s.

Both, Ati and Nvidia have recognized some years ago that it does not make sense to develop two different gpu´s. Since then they only do develop one GPU and castrate the gaming cards with locking the pro caps by the graphics driver.

Probably you know all that , but what i´m trying to say is that i don´t think the fx series from Nvidia does have extra hardware features that their other GPU´s don´t have.
The only reason pro cards are so expensive, is the driver developement for the pro apps.

Doesn't the FX 1600M have 512MB dedicated while the 320M has 256MB dedicated?

@shoko You're correct, it used to be possible to softmod the Geforce cards into Quadro's, however that is no longer possible. There is a hardware lock and a driver lock on the geforce and nvs cards that disallows the professional acceleration features.

Thanks for all the information, I just want to know to make sure that I will have enough money to buy the right one in a few months, since I will do 3D modeling for Physics and with some other 3D apps like CAD or StudioMax...

    Thanks again.

Is that the only hardware difference between the two?

I am considering the HP8710w or p. I want high speed graphics for games, no rendering. I create virtual tours for clients and want a fast graphics response and very crisp and clear colors. Also, has anyone seen the antiglare + screen? I think the glossy is more vibrant, but it is not good for clients to look at it from the side. Is the antiglare vibrant or dull like the Dell Precision (which I returned due to that)? Any help would be appreciated.

Also the HP specs lists the FX1600M having 800MHz while 320M only 700MHz. Slight differences between them.
